Daisy, a yellow Labrador and Brittany Spaniel mixed dog, fell down a cliff near her owner’s home on Lakeshore Drive and had to be rescued by Caledonia Firefighters at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11.
Keitch Heimann, who lives in the 7100 block of Lakeshore Drive, let out his three dogs. They usually come when he calls out to them, but only two came back. After searching the neighborhood Heimann found that Daisy had fallen about 30 feet down a cliff that is back behind his house near Lake Michigan.
“I couldn’t go to her,” Heimann said. “She was stuck in the mud and the cliff is starting to erode again. Parts of it are starting fall away again.”
Calling the Caledonia Fire Department for help, the firefighters helped rescue Daisy, who was chest deep in mud.
“We had to walk back to the lake bank and walk up to get her,” said Battalion Chief Jeff Henningfeld. “But it was very muddy.”
Once they were able to free Daisy from the mud, they carried her back to Heimann. Daisy was unhurt, but a little anxious after the ordeal.
