Mount Pleasant trustees Monday are expected to approve a 2015 budget amendment that will clear the way for the police department’s new K9 officer.

K9 Bones is retiring this spring after nine years on the job with MPPD Officer Dale Swart. He is 10 years old, and he has been working for about a year longer than the average K9.

The cost of a new dog and the training the animal and their human partner go through can cost upwards of $30,000. Police Chief Tim Zarzecki confirmed last month that the money is in the bank thanks to donations and fundraising.

Other items on the agenda include the approval of Logan Martin’s promotion and commensurate salary from Community Development Coordinator to Community Development Director. Martin has been the village’s only full-time development employee since 2013 and has helped usher in a number of new businesses and building projects – most of them on Washington Avenue – including the Land & Lakes spec building at International Drive, the expansion of O&H’s new production facility, and J.D. Byrider.

The Village Board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive. Call (262) 664-7800.
