Though mall staffers are keeping mum about the name of the potential new tenant for Regency Mall, they are confirming a sporting goods store could soon sign a lease.
The new store would take the former Sears space, a story in the Milwaukee Business Journal reads.
Sean Phillips, regional director of marketing for CBL Properties, owners of the mall, told MBJ that CBL plans to redevelop the former anchor space for a sporting goods retailer. The former Sears measures about 89,000 square feet.
“CBL is committed not only to Regency Mall, but also the Racine market,” he is quoted as saying.
CBL is not releasing the name of the store until a lease is signed, but work on the Sears space will begin soon.
News about a new anchor tenant is good news for Regency Mall, which has seen Sears and JC Penney close and has more than a dozen empty storefronts.
