State Rep. Melissa Sargent, D-Madison, Monday introduced a bill that would legalize marijuana in Wisconsin, but the chances of it going anywhere are slim.
As noted in a story from the Associated Press, Republicans control both houses of the Legislature, so it’s unlikely the bill will go very far. Gov. Scott Walker has said he opposes legalized marijuana even for medicinal purposes because it is so often a gateway drug.
Sargent’s reasoning is that legalizing marijuana for medicinal and recreational use will reduce crime and improve the state’s finances.
