Mount Pleasant police are encouraging residents to keep their doors locked after a number of homes in the village were burglarized while residents were home and sleeping.
Officers are asking for the public’s help finding two male suspects – possibly teenagers – who are believed to have broken into at least six homes, plus one in the City of Racine.
“The suspects in these burglaries did not force entry into the houses. The suspects looked for unlocked doors and windows,” said MPPD Sgt. Eric Relich in a written release. “Residents are being asked to lock all their doors and windows. Also invest in security lighting at all entry points to their homes in order to deter criminal activity.”
The crimes took place in the early morning hours while residents were sleeping, and one of the occupants found a suspect in a closet, but that person fled the scene.
Four of the incidents took place within a short distance of each other on the same date, one of which was in the City of Racine :
- 4-15-15: 5800 block of Mt. Vernon Way

- 4-13-15: 200 block of S Indiana Street
- 4-13-15: 200 block of Oregon Street

Another burglary was reported in the 2100 block of Mead Street, but is not believed to be related to the above incidents.
