A new CVS Pharmacy will set up shop, this time at the corner of Durand and Lathrop Avenues in the former Kohl’s space.
Company officials confirmed for the Milwaukee Business Journal that they will raze the building and put up a new, 13,225-square foot store and pharmacy across the street from it’s primary competitor, Walgreen’s.
Work is slated to begin still this month, the story reads.
Kohl’s closed in 2003 and has been vacant ever since. The Village of Elmwood Park in 2012 successfully fought off an effort by Walmart to build a Neighborhood Market on the same site, and village officials worked with NorStates Bank in 2013 to strip away old peeling paint and give the old store a fresh coat of white.
This new CVS is scheduled to open later this fall, the MBJ story continues.
The fate of a new CVSÂ planned for the corner of Ohio Street and Washington Avenue – also across the street from Walgreen’s – is up to the city Common Council after the Planning Commission on April 9 rejected CVS’ plan, which includes improvements like better sight lines and reducing the number of driveways there from 10 to two.
