There’s a right way and a wrong way to fix a muffler. While the driver of this 1993 BMW received a verbal warning, Caledonia Police reminded readers that fixing a muffler with a belt and a shoestring just isn’t the right thing to do.
So they posted a photo of the muffler on the Caledonia Police Department Facebook page.
An officer stopped a driver because he had no license plates and a defective exhaust. The driver told police he had just purchased the car and was driving it home. While en route the muffler fell off and the driver commandeered his passenger’s belt to fix the problem.
The officer acknowledged the driver’s creativity, but wanted readers to know the fix wasn’t going to get others out of a ticket.
“Although this is a very unique way of fixing the problem it is not DOT approved and is in violation of state statue 347.39 (1),” according to their Facebook page. “We are not sure what the shoe lace was doing,”
