Village of CaledoniaCaledonia finalized the purchase of 23.6 acres of land adjacent to Crawford Park, a property that could be used as a possible site for municipal buildings, said village officials.

In a unanimous decision, the Caledonia village board approved the $186,677 purchase at its board meeting held Monday night.

Village administrator Mark Janiuk said the land is currently being farmed and the person farming the land has agreed to continue farming it until the village wants to build on the property.

“Since the village has no immediate plans to use the property, it’s to our advantage to keeping it farmed,” Janiuk said.

The farmer will now lease the land from the village for $2,080 per year.

The village plans to pay for the property with funds from a $483,000 surplus from 2014. The cost of the land was not in the 2015 budget.
