Mount Pleasant police say two women over the weekend stole a variety of goods – including steaks and hams – from Walmart.

Kimberly Acevedo, 45, and Sandra Rife, 46, both of Kenosha, were charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count each of retail theft. Acevedo is also facing a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge. If convicted, each defendant could face up to nine months in jail and/or up to $10,000 in prison for the theft charge.

According to the criminal complaint, Walmart store security at 12:30 a.m. Sunday witnessed both Acevedo and Rife go around the store and place a variety of items in their purses, including steaks, hams and lens wipes. Rife was also seen opening DVD cases and placing the DVDs in her pants. When the defendants went through check-out, they paid for a few things using an EBT card, but proceeded out the first set of doors without paying for everything.

Police say Acevedo tried to get away, but security staff grabbed hold of her arm and escorted both women to the loss prevention office.

The items Acevedo and Rife tried to steal came to $313.47.

Online jail records do not indicate if Acevedo and Rife are still in custody, and online court records do not list any details from their initial appearance Monday.
