Caledonia-police-statio-300x168Caledonia police say a man who was convicted in 1993 of child sex assault and isn’t supposed to be around children was found with three young children during a traffic stop.

Salvator D Acquisto, 56, was charged Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony charge of child sex offender working with children. If convicted, he faces up to 12-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $25,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia police on March 6 received a call about reckless driving on 3-Mile Road just east of Green Bay Road. When officers arrived on the scene and made contact with the driver – identified as D Acquisto, they determined he was suffering from diabetic hypoglycemia.

Police say there were three children in the back seat, two boys ages three and five and a 5-year-old girl. According to the conditions of his release, D Acquisto is prohibited from having any contact with children. He told officers one of the boys is his son.

Investigators contacted the mother of the children and asked how she met D Acquisto. She told them she met him at work and that he babysits for her for free because she wasn’t working at the time, the complaint reads. The woman said D Acquisto watched the kids on at least three occasions and usually took them to eat, to the bank and then back home.

D Acquisto remains in the Racine County Jail on a $2,500 cash bond. He will next be in court May 20 for a preliminary hearing.
