Mount Pleasant police Officer Eric Oertel isn’t out of field training yet, but he put his speed and strength to good work Saturday when he chased down an alleged bank robber.
After robbing the North Shore Bank at Southport Plaza in Kenosha, the suspect led police on a chase through that city and parts of Kenosha County before driving into Racine County and ditching his car in Mount Pleasant’s Lakeside neighborhood, according to a story from The Journal Times.
Oertel was in the area and gave chase, putting his former football skills from Washington State University to work catching up to the suspect and bringing him down, the story continues.
Oertel is a Racine-area native and graduate of Racine Lutheran High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology from Washington State University.
He was sworn in last January with Officer Cody Smith during a village board meeting.
