A Caledonia man was charged with burglary after investigators were able to connect him to the crime after he was a victim in a hit and run incident, according to a criminal complaint by the Caledonia Police Department.
Christopher Weber, 22, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with burglary on Monday, April 11.
If convicted, Weber faces up to 12 years, six months in prison and/or fined up to $25,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Weber smashed a window at a residence in the 1800 block of Wind Dale Drive in January and took a flat screen television.
A friend of Weber’s told police he and some friends knew the house was being rehabbed and they drove to the home where Weber walked around the back of the home and came back carrying the television. He also had cut his hand. During the investigation police found a beer can that had blood on it at the scene.
In March, Weber was a victim in a hit and run accident and officers recovered clothing that had his blood on it. In April, the Wisconsin Crime Lab matched the DNA from the blood on the beer can to the blood from Weber’s clothing, according to the criminal complaint.
A cash bond was set for $500. A preliminary hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. May 21 in front of Racine County Felony Court Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz.
