Sturtevant police say the driver of a car that may have been involved in racing was injured after he lost control and crashed into a utility pole.
Officers were called at 5:56 p.m. to the 10000 block of Braun Road for a report of a car accident that involved a driver being trapped. When police and rescue crews from South Shore Fire Department arrived, bystanders had helped remove the driver from the car.
The driver, a 21-year-old Racine man, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sturtevant police Chief Sean Marschke said in a written statement that speed and potentially racing down the highway are suspected factors.
Homes nearby were without power because the accident took down electrical lines. WE Energies was called, and power was restored to those customers within a couple of hours.
