Jerreck Hansen

A Racine man led police on a chase through Caledonia’s Kremer subdivision Tuesday morning, fleeing from an officer who tried to stop him for having a suspended registration, according to a criminal complaint.

Jerreck R. Hansen, 30, is charged with attempting to flee or elude a traffic officer. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The pursuit began Tuesday morning, according to court records, when a Caledonia officer reported seeing a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo speeding out of the north entrance of Speedway, 4960 Douglas Ave., to go east on 4 Mile Road.

Noting the vehicle’s suspended registration, the officer turned around to catch up. With lights on, the officer tried catching up to the vehicle, which was going 80 mph in the 35-mph-zone, according to court records.

Squads boxed the vehicle inside the Kremer subdivision, and officers set up a high risk stop, ordering the driver out at gunpoint near the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Johnson Avenue.

The driver appeared disoriented and the officer smelled alcohol. After at first denying that he knew what was going on, the man later said he sped off because he knew his license was suspended, according to the criminal complaint.

Hansen is being held on $500 cash bond.
