UPDATE July 1: The planning commission unanimously approved a recommendation for the project at a meeting held Tuesday, June 30. The Caledonia Village Board is expected to vote on the project at its next meeting.
ORIGINAL STORY: Caledonia could have a new lounge called Buddies Lounge, which will be part of Mulligans Miniature Golf and Driving Range, if all the proper approvals are received by the developer Akil Ajmeri.
Ajmeri co-owns Mulligan’s, 6633 Douglas Avenue, with James and Debra Ladwig. The plan, which includes renovating the building and using part of it as a lounge and hall, will be considered for a conditional use permit at the Caledonia Plan Commission meeting Tuesday, June 30.
The Ladwig family has operated Mulligan’s Miniature Golf and Driving Range out of the building for several years. Prior to that, the building had been a tavern.
Ajmeri’s proposal includes building a high-end lounge and hall that will serve food and alcohol. It will also have big screen televisions and couches. Other upgrades include gutting the whole building, putting in a new HVAC system, an outdoor patio, and new windows.
Ajmeri has a pending liquor license, which they were not using.
“It’s going to be a beautiful thing for Caledonia,” Ajmeri said.”It’s going to be more of a lounge, not a bar…where people can gather and watch sports and Packer games with their friends and they can hang out.”
Another part to the project is to have heated canopies over eight of the 23 driving ranges.
Once the project receives final approval from the plan commission and village board, Ajmeri plans to start construction and hopes to have the project completed within 60 days.
