Sturtevant trustees Tuesday are expected to approve a parks plan that addresses a list of short- and long-term maintenance and improvement projects, including how to best use a donation for the building at South Park.

Members of the Parks & Rec committee – chaired by Trustee Carrie Harbach – worked with Village Engineer/DPW Director Jeff Seitz to narrow down a list of over $183,000 worth of ideas into columns of yes, no, and someday.

The total dollar amount includes items from each of Sturtevant’s four parks and detailed things like painting the tennis courts and installing toddler swings at South Park; paving the paths and replacing the playground equipment at North Park; replacing the bleachers and planting six new trees at Fireman’s Park; and installing both a Porta-potty and new garbage cans at East Park.

Harbach said work will begin at South Park and focus on the building there thanks to a private donation for working bathrooms.

“There is a large list of needs, wants and wishes at each park. At this time, South Park is where we will begin. A private donation of supplies and labor for the building at that park is being coordinated,” she told Racine County Eye. “The goal for that building to install working bathrooms and create storage and a pavilion.”

The Sturtevant board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 2801 89th Street. Call (262) 886-7200.
