Citizens are invited to the official unveiling of new street signs that mark what many hope will be a turn toward the better; Jacato Drive will officially be renamed Anthony Lane Thursday during a special ceremony.
Scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m., residents will first participate in re-dedicating the street and then have the opportunity to tour the new conference room at the newly named Ernest and Bernice Styberg COP House, 2437 Jacato Drive.
Changing the name of Jacato Drive to Anthony Lane – for the original developer of the area – still needs to be approved by the Common Council, but the measure was expected to pass Tuesday.
Charlie Clarke, a principal of both Kinzie Racine, LLP and Evanston, IL-based Kinzie Realty Corp., is spending upwards of $3 million to rehab every unit, hallway and basement in every building, but he said that work can only go so far if the name of the street still makes people think only of the area’s troubled not-so-distant past.
Over in the COP House, the new conference room was made possible by the Racine Community Foundation and the E.C. Styberg Foundation.
“Please join us as we celebrate the expansion of our neighborhood COP house and honor the Styberg family for their many years of support of the local community policing philosophy,” a press release from the Racine Police Department reads.
