A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.After a 13-year-old Caledonia girl died Sunday when a SUV struck her while she was jogging, the William Horlick High School Class of 1983 has set up a GoFundMe account to help the family.

Sara Dresen, 13, of Caledonia, was jogging southbound at about 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 on the west side of Middle Road near 5 1/2 Mile Road when a 34-year-old Caledonia man driving a SUV crossed the center line, struck Sara, and hit a utility pole. She died at the scene.

Sara’s mother, Lisa Hansen, graduated from Horlick High School in 1983.

“Our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase a permanent memorial in Sara’s name, contribute to a scholarship fund for Emma (their oldest daughter) and to help fund any other family needs or wishes,” according to the GoFundMe account page. “Please consider contributing to help us reach or exceed our goal.”

Dresen would have started the eighth grade this fall at St. Catherine’s Middle School.

Thomas Macemon was charged Tuesday by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and homicide by vehicle-use of controlled substance. If convicted of both charges, Macemon faces up to 35 years in prison and/or fined up to $125,000. Macemon, who appeared via a closed circuit television, never looked up as Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch set Macemon’s bond for $250,000.

Macemon is expected to have a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. Aug 20 in front of Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch.

A visitation has been set for 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Road. The visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17 at the funeral home. A celebration of Sara’s life will take place 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
