A man who fought another man after he took his car keys because he thought he was too drunk to drive is facing charges Sunday morning at Robin’s Pub, 2139 Racine St., according to a criminal complaint by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
Jared Carbajal, 29, of Racine, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon. If convicted, Carbajal faces up to a year and nine months in prison, and/or fines up to $21,000.
According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Mount Pleasant Police were called for a report of people fighting at 2:19 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 inside Robin’s Pub. When police arrived, they found about 20 people fighting in the street that were blocking the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic. Carbajal was involved in “an intense argument” with another man.
Officers noted that Carbajal appeared to have been drunk and he was cursing at the man. Carbahal also had a bloody lip. Trying to walk away from the officers, Carbajal was detained and they had to use pepper spray to get him to comply with their orders. Once arrested, officers search Carbajal and found a bandanna wrapped around a lock that he appeared to have swung at people.
Witness told police that a friend of Carbajal’s didn’t think he was fit to drive because he had been drinking and he took Carbajal’s keys. Carbajal’s girlfriend argued with the man who took the keys. A fight ensued between the man and Carbajal, and his girlfriend got punched in the face.
The owner of Robin’s Pub told police they tried to break up the fight, but when they realized they couldn’t they pushed people out of the bar.
Carbajal was in custody and a cash bond was set at $250. A pretrial conference has been set for 3:15 p.m. Sept. 17.
