Caledonia Fire DepartmentA man was hospitalized after he crashed the car he was driving at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 in the 5100 block of Four Mile Road, said battalion chief Gene Roeder, of the Caledonia Fire Department.

The extent of the man’s injuries is unknown, but rescue personnel extricated him out of the vehicle and he was flown via helicopter by Flight For Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

The car, which was westbound on Four Mile Road hit the trees and the car spun around.

“He dropped into a ditch probably 20-30 off the road and the car got hung up on the trees,” Roeder said. “If they wouldn’t have been there, he would have gone down in there and it would have been a different story getting him out because the ravine does get deep there.”

The road was shut down between Highway 31 and Short Road while crews worked to extricate the man and for Flight for Life to get to the scene.

The name of the man has not been released. The cause of the crash is still being investigated. However, Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department, said the man was talking while he was being extricated.
