Drunk DrivingA man was arrested for drunk driving after he drove his car into a ditch Sunday morning in the 5100 block of Four Mile Road, said Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department.

Dwayne Wates II, 24, of Kenosha, was arrested for drunken driving (2nd offense), operating a vehicle after revocation (alcohol-related), traveling at an unreasonable and imprudent speed, and failing to keep a vehicle under control.

The car, which was westbound on Four Mile Road, hit the trees and the car spun around, said battalion chief Gene Roeder.

After being extricated out of the car by rescue personnel from the Caledonia Fire Department, Wates was taken via helicopter by Flight for Life to Froedter Hospital in Milwaukee where doctors treated him for minor injuries, Larsen said.

Wates is also facing a charge of refusing to take a test for intoxication after arrest, according to court records.

He was arrested for drunk driving based on the arresting officer’s observations, Larsen said.

“In the end, even if you’re found not guilty, a refusal counts on your record, so a subsequent arrest for OWI would count the refusal as an OWI,” he said.
