An 18-year-old man has been hospitalized after making suicidal statements then running from police at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, said Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department.
The man, whose father lives on Edgar Terrace, had threatened to commit suicide and his father called the police. When they arrived they found that the man had cut himself with something and that he also had also cut himself prior to the incident. The man then ran from the officers, who were trying to apprehend him and police started chasing the man.
The Racine County Sheriff’s Department brought their K-9 unit out to the area when officers were still pursuing the man. The K-9 officer found the man near Sebastian’s Restaurant, 6025 Douglas Ave. After taking the man into custody, they transported him by ambulance to the hospital where he voluntarily committed himself for a mental health evaluation, Larsen said.
The man’s name was not released by police because he wasn’t arrested.
