The Biggest Loser RunWalk Series Half-Marathon and 5k on Sunday, Sept. 13 will feature new courses that highlight the Racine Zoo and the Lake Michigan shoreline.
“We wanted to develop a course that is challenging, interesting and a bit more compact than previous years,” said Kari Dawson, Real Racine events director. “We’re grateful to the Racine Zoo team and city officials for making it possible.”
The half-marathon gets under way at 7:30 a.m. from North Beach Park, 100 Kewaunee St. The 5k follows at 8 a.m. Both courses extend north from the park through the zoo and nearby neighborhoods. The courses return to the park via the Lake Michigan Pathway. The entire 5k course stays north of the Root River.
The half-marathon course crosses the Main Street bridge and uses the pathways adjacent to the river and Lake Michigan through Pershing Park to 11th Street. From there, the course continues north along Lake Avenue and Main Street to return to North Beach Park. Runners will make two loops of the course to complete the half-marathon distance (13.1 miles).
