Students at Mitchell Elementary school started the new year by giving their new playground equipment lots of attention.

After being awarded a $15,000 Let’s Play grant last fall, Mitchell students, their families and the PTA got busy selling personalized bricks to help bridge the $7,500 gap they needed in order to build the new playground.

Their hard work paid off, and on August 18 the new playground was open for play after volunteers put on some finishing touches like spreading wood mulch under the equipment for safety.

“It’s so cool to see our hard work pay off,” teacher Kathleen Sura told district communications staff. “I can’t wait to see the excitement on their faces throughout the school year.”
