There were no injuries – for residents and firefighters – after a fire Labor Day morning that caused $36,000 in damages.

Racine firefighters were called at 10:21 a.m. Monday for a report of a fire at a home in the 2200 block of Blake Avenue. RFD Lt. Scott Sorce said in a written release that a passing motorist noticed the fire and called 911.

When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was visible from the north and south sides of the building, and the entire rear of the home (east side) was on fire, including the soffit and roof.

The exterior fire was extinguished quickly before firefighters went inside the attack the flames. All occupants of the home were accounted for and safe.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
