There are 291 potential $15,000 winners located throughout the community and beyond, raising the money needed for a 2016 fireworks show.

Sturtevant Trustee Carrie Harbach Tuesday informed the rest of the board that the final tally for tickets sold is 291 out of 300 for a total of $29,100 in the pot. The winner will receive $15,000, and the fireworks will net $14,100 to help pay for the 2016 fireworks show.

Village President Steve Jansen is thrilled with the news.

“I’m looking forward to an awesome display in the sky next July 3,” he said. “I’m very happy and extremely gratified to the folks who helped in this effort.”

Sturtevant police Chief Sean Marschke will pull the winning number at the Sept. 15 village board meeting.

The raffle tickets were introduced in April as a fundraising event for the fireworks after the volunteer committee recommended that the village cancel the 2015 show because of a lack of funds and new committee members. Monday was the deadline to buy a chance at the $15,000 jackpot.

Harbach said Monday that she was confident the raffle and other community fundraisers like the annual Santa dinner and the pancake breakfast would be enough to pay for the 2016 fireworks. A family festival, however, would require a significant amount of involvement from residents from throughout the community to pull the day together.

The Sept. 15 village board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 2801 89th Street. Call (262) 886-7200.
