A 57-year-old Mount Pleasant woman is recovering Sunday at Froedtert Hospital from burns she suffered after falling into a backyard firepit.

Mount Pleasant police were called at 11:29 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 6700 block of Ptarmigan Road for a report of a woman who fell into a firepit made of landscaping bricks.

When officers arrived, they found the woman conscious with burns to her legs, torso and head. Rescue crews from South Shore Fire Department transported her to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s where she was picked up by Flight for Life and taken to Froedtert Hospital.

The woman was attending a party that started Saturday afternoon. Other people at the party pulled the woman from the fire immediately, dialed 911 and started treating her wounds.
