What to do this weekend? How about some living history, a baseball musical, the symphony and Raiders football. It’s all happening in Racine County. Come along with Real Racine.
Experience history. History comes alive Saturday and Sunday at the annual Half Point Historical Re-enactment. Stop by the Racine County Fairgrounds, 19805 Durand Ave., Union Grove, to see knives and arrowheads being made and the witness the lives of fur trappers, farmers and soldiers. It’s all free courtesy of the Union Grove Lions and Kiwanis clubs. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Strings at RSO. The Racine Symphony Orchestra (RSO) presents the season’s first Masterworks Concert at the Racine Theatre Guild stage, 2519 Northwestern Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The theme is “With Strings Attached” and includes a special performance of Bach’s “Double Violin Concerto” by Maestro Pasquale Laurino and Concertmaster Alexander Mandl. Also performing is special guest artist Dominic Johnson. Tickets are $23 in advance; $25 at the door. Students ages 20 and younger are free. Yer out! Baseball, music and a morality story combine in The Haylofters production of “Damn Yankees” this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This Broadway hit is about a baseball fan who trades his soul to the devil for a chance to lead his favorite team, the Washington Senators, to victory in a pennant race against the dreaded New York Yankees. Show times are 7:30 p.m. each evening at Burlington’s Malt House Theatre, 109 N. Cheer on the Raiders. Racine’s own semi-pro football team, the Racine Raiders, are in the hunt for another championship on Saturday night at Horlick Field, 1648 N. Memorial Drive. The first-round game in the Midwest Football Tournament is against the Columbus, Ohio, Fire. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for students. Go for a run. The Root River 5k is Saturday morning at Island Park, 1704 Liberty St. The race course is along the river through Island and Colonial parks. The race gets under way at 9 a.m. and benefits Habitat for Humanity. Adult registration is $30. Visit www.TheRootRiver.com
