You won’t have look far for fall fun! Run in your Halloween costume, watch out for soaring squash and be on the lookout for zombies. Real Racine has some great weekend suggestions.
Skamper like a skeleton. It’s almost here – the Sixth Annual Real Racine Skeleton Skamper 5k Run/Walk is a Halloween costume party and much more. The fun gets under way at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Pleasant Civic Campus, 8811 Campus Drive, with a timed run through the village. Then, stay for the free post-run party with a kids trick-or-treat walk, a DJ, pumpkin decorating, carnival games, face painting and a costume contest with nearly $500 in cash and prizes. Pumpkins will fly. The Great Pumpkin Chuckin Fest is back and bigger than ever this Saturday and Sunday at the Racine County Fairgrounds, 19805 Durand Ave., Union Grove. Teams have built catapults, trebuchets and slingshots to hurl pumpkins hundreds of feet for trophies and bragging rights. New this year is the Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned Best of the Midwest BBQ Cook-Off on Saturday. The weekend festival also includes free kids games, a pie-eating contest, pumpkin baking contest, a people’s choice chili cook-off and costume contests for youth and adults. Kill you with kindness. “Arsenic and Old Lace,” a classic dark comedy about a pair of sweet old ladies who turn out to be serial killers, opens Friday at the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave. This play is just as funny today as when it first appeared back in the 1940s. For the family. Bring the family for creative fun at the Fall Family Fun Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Chas. A. Wustum Museum of Fine Art, 2519 Northwestern Ave. There are art projects, spooky stories and pumpkins to decorate. Bring a carved pumpkin from home by 4 p.m. to compete for a prize and don’t miss the costume contest. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The undead are out. The streets of Downtown Racine will be downright scary starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Zombie Pub Crawl includes six Downtown nightspots and concludes with a costume contest at midnight at Evelyn’s Club Main, 331 Main St. Other zombie crawl locations are The Ivanhoe, Dewey’s, Mc Auliffe’s on the Square, Blue Rock and Toad Hall.
Bowling for fun. The Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to its first-ever Fund-a-Palooza from 12 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at River City Lanes, 730 Cornerstone Crossing, Waterford. The event includes bowling, a silent auction, a wine cork pull and raffles all afternoon. The cost is $25 for adults; $15 kids ages 4 through 11 (bowlers) or $15 for adults; $10 kids ages 4 through 11 (non-bowlers). Everyone registered gets a pizza and salad buffet. One more chance. This is the final weekend for The Haylofters production of the Broadway hit musical “Damn Yankees.” There is singing, dancing and fun in this tale about the baseball fan who sells his soul to the devil to defeat the hated New York Yankees.
