Giese Elementary School is celebrating 50 years of educating Racine’s students with a party next Friday, and Gov. Scott Walker has declared the day as Giese Elementary School Day.
A party is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. and will include music by the Giese choir and light refreshments. Past and present teachers, administration, students and Giese families are expected to attend.
State Sen. Van Wanggaard is expected to deliver the proclamation in the governor’s place, and Giese Principal Thomas Hyland will recognize past and present principals, faculty and staff for their dedication.
Giese opened in 1965 and is comprised of 22 classrooms in three clusters; an innovative design that earned an award from the American Institute of Architects.
Giese Elementary is located at 5120 Byrd Avenue.
