Whether or not a $6 million development moves forward hinges on a special planning commission meeting Monday.
Members of the Mount Pleasant Planning Commission will consider amending the village’s comprehensive plan and rezoning 12 parcels near the intersection of Spring Street and Highway 31 so the Willkomm Company can build a gas station/restaurant/car wash facility.
Specifically, Willkomm wants to develop just over 10 acres of land at the southeast corner of Spring and 31 between Spring and Sunnyside and they need the land redesignated from residential zoning to commercial. The special meeting will take up both issues.
Mount Pleasant Community Development Director Logan Martin said he is recommending approval for the project.
“Access and traffic were main concerns initially, but the traffic impact analysis has mitigated most concerns,” he said in an email to Racine County Eye.
There was a  statutorily required public hearing earlier this year about the project, prior to which Jane Studebaker-Harlan in a Letter to the Editor asked for the community’s support.
The special meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive. Call (262) 664-7800.
