The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will make its annual stop in Sturtevant at 5:25 p.m. Dec. 4 to help raise money, food donations and awareness for the Racine County Food Bank.
Thousands of area residents came out last year to see the full-sized locomotive with cars wrapped in thousands of brightly colored lights, enjoy a live music show from a freight car that folded out into a stage and get a visit from Santa.
All told, the community donated almost 7,000 pounds of food in 2014, more than double what was contributed in 2013. CP Rail presented a check for $4,000, up significantly from the $1,000 they typically give a Holiday Train community.
The train has been stopping in Sturtevant since 2003, by-passing the village only once in 2011. The Holiday Train tours through the Upper Midwest and helps draw attention to the need of local food banks. All food and cash donations collected in Sturtevant stay with the Racine County Food Bank.
For those of you trying to avoid the crowds by seeing the train in other areas, the train will make its way through Caledonia at 6:15 p.m. and will pass through Franksville and Husher. As it heads north it will cross at Kraut Rd, CTH K, Adams Rd, 4 Mile Rd., CTH G, 7 Mile Rd, and 7 & 1/2 Mile Rd. You can also see it from the dead ends of 6 & 1/2 Mile Rd.
Caledonia Police are encouraging people to make sure to park off the roadway, dress warm and not stand in the road or within 25 feet of the rails for your own safety and to keep a close watch on any children with you.
