Children from across the greater Racine community are invited to the annual Cops ‘n Kids Book Giveaway Dec. 19 at Festival Hall.

Now in its 13th year, the book giveaway grew out of a movement started by former Racine police Officer Julia Burney who noticed too few books in the homes where she answered calls. Hundreds of children of all ages regardless of income flood the hall to pick out stories they can take home and treasure forever.

Kids can also choose books to give to family and friends and have them gift-wrapped. And Santa, of course, will make a special appearance for photos.

Members of RAPD, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will also be on hand to autograph books and read to kids the books they choose.

Cops ‘n Kids Book Giveaway runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 19 at Festival Hall, 5 Fifth Street. Admission is free.
