Residents of Elmwood Park will no longer have a tree as one of their official village notice posting areas.

After decades of posting meeting notices on a tree at the intersection of Maryland and Taylor Avenues, the Elmwood Park treeVillage of Elmwood Park will now use the village website and the Evergreen School at Lathrop and Taylor.

Trustees Monday unanimously approved putting a new state law to work that allows village officials to post meeting notices on the village website and at one public location, a story in The Journal Times reads.

“When the state changed the law,” Village Trustee Alan Bagg was quoted as saying. “We just decided to make this simpler. People don’t want to climb over a snowbank … We’re trying to get with the modern world … It was kind of comical.”

The Elmwood Park Village Board meets once a month, and the change will go into affect Jan 1, the story continues.
