The Racine Fire and Racine Police departments are on scene at a chemical spill that happened at 3:10 p.m. Thursday behind a plating company.
Crews with the fire department are cleaning up sodium hydroxide after a drum of it spilled behind the Wisconsin Plating Company. Sodium hydroxide is corrosive, and can irritate the skin and nose if inhaled.
None of the contents of the drum made its way into the river. This spill has been contained. No one was injured.
Racine police had the street blocked off at Water Street and North Memorial Drive for about an hour.
