After a knock-down, drag-out fight Friday night against the J.I.Case Eagles, the Washington Park Panthers boys basketball team remains undefeated.

The Panthers are 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southeast Conference, The Journal Times is reporting, had a seven-point lead at the half, but the Eagles played hard in the second half.

“It was an ugly game, but we got the ‘W’,” Park senior Preniss McGowan is quoted as saying. “It was a rival game, so we knew Case would come to play and fight to the end.’’

Case tied the game at 61-61 with 2:46 left in the game, the story continues, but McGowan made three free throws – one with just 22.7 seconds to go – to clinch the win for Park.

“The guys are battling right to the end,’’ Case coach Steve Jaskulske told the newspaper. “A bounce here, a bounce there … Who knows? But Park is a good team. They aren’t ranked in the top 10 for nothing.’’
