Batten down the outdoor Christmas decorations Wednesday night because winds are expected to gust at up to 50 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday and ending at 6 a.m. Thursday.
Weather is still far from the winter residents have come to expect in December; temperatures Wednesday could reach 60 degrees. Rain – even possible thunderstorms – will keep most of the day grey and wet.
But by Wednesday evening, the NWS is reporting, a cold front will push through and move the winds from the southwest to the west and bring gusts of up to 50 mph with it.
“A strong cold frontal passage will shift the winds to the west to southwest this evening,” the alert reads. “Winds will gust to 45 to 50 mph for much of the night.”
Residents will notice the change starting between 8 and 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The front is expected to move on Thursday morning and the wind will die down considerably.
“The winds will subside by sunrise Thursday,” the NWS advisory reads.
