The Caledonia Parks Department will offer adult slow-pitch softball and kickball leagues, which will kickoff a 12-week season beginning June 6 at Gorney Park, 8201 Nicholson Rd.
Sign-up for men’s and women’s competitive and recreational softball, and kickball leagues will begin on Jan. 11 and run through March 4.
Randall Solberg, parks supervisor for the Caledonia Parks and Recreation Department, said this is the first time the department has offered recreational programming.
“To me, a municipal parks and recreation department should be providing activities for our community,” he said.
But the softball and kickball leagues aren’t exclusive to Caledonia residents. Each of the 40 teams will have 14 people, but they are adult leagues so they aren’t trying to compete with the Caledonia Youth Baseball/Softball League that is run through the Friends of Caledonia Parks and not the Caledonia Parks and Recreation Department.
Solberg said he’s also looking for team sponsor, which will help make the league self-sufficient and provide revenue for parks-related projects. The village has already updated the infield at the baseball diamonds by adding topsoil, grooming the outfield and painting the fences. The cost to sponsor a softball team is $200, which includes the game balls, and the cost for the kickball team is $170. The player fee is $20 per player.
Umpires are also needed, Solfberg said.
To register to play or fill out an application to become an umpire, visit the Village of Caledonia website at www.CaledoniaWI.com or pick up a form at the Village Hall, 6922 Nicholson Rd.
