The Racine Police Department is investigating a fire that did minimal damage to the exterior of a home New Year’s Day night.

Crews from the Racine Fire Department were called at 11:07 p.m. to the 1000 block of Grand Avenue after a neighbor noticed flames outside the building. When firefighters arrived, they quickly extinguished the fire, and police investigators gathered evidence to determine its cause.

RAPD Sgt. Pablo Guardiola told The Journal Times that witnesses reported seeing someone throw a Molotov cocktail at the home before fleeing, and that person remains at large.

No one was injured, and the damage listed in a press release from RFD Lt. Scott Sorce comes to about $500. The occupant of the home can remain there safely.
