The Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network, which supports sustainability projects in the Root-Pike Watershed, has named Dave Giordano as their executive director.
Giodano takes over the job after Allison Thielen, the former executive director, became the executive director for the Eco-Justice Center. A board member and resource group member since 2011, Giordano’s new duties include leading fundraising efforts, day-to-day operations and communications.
“Native to this area, Dave has a deep passion for waters in this area. He understands their heritage and challenges, and the positive impact these ecosystems have on the welfare and brand of each community”, said Jim Mueller, Root-Pike WIN’s board president. “Dave’s diverse background in strategic planning, marketing communications, business development, and project management, and his past involvement in our organization, made him an ideal choice for this role.”
Having held several director-level positions in the construction industry, Giordano strengths are in strategic planning, project management, sales operations and marketing communications.
“The impaired watersheds in Southeastern Wisconsin are in a fragile state, and I couldn’t be more excited to take on a leadership role in an organization that can affect significant improvement”, Giordano said.
The organization is focused on finding public/private partnerships to carry out their EPA-approved watershed restoration plan.
“The Pike River, Pike Creek, Root River, Oak Creek and Wind Point watersheds define our home, history and heritage. It’s time to restore them,” he said.
The nonprofit organization reaches into parts of Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee and Waukesha counties and has awarded $545,000 in small grants to over 100 conservation projects.
