A Caledonia woman who had about a dozen chickens in a shed on her property wants the Village Board to change an ordinance that would allow her to legally have them.
Cindy Pradarelli, 1543 Johnson Ave., had 11 chickens on her property, which is zoned residential and less than five acres. Pradarelli has since moved the birds to a farm, but has vowed to get the ordinance amended so that she can get them back.
Caledonia doesn’t allow chickens on residential properties that are less than five acres and aren’t zoned for agriculture. But Pradarelli has since collected 440 signatures on a petition asking the village to change its ordinance.
The Village Board will consider her petition at its meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 at the East Side Community Center, 6156 Douglas Ave.
