Mount Pleasant police say a 30-year-old Milwaukee man is in custody after he hit another car Saturday on I-94 and then fled the scene.

Officers responded at 12:36 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 20 and the East Frontage Road for a report of an accident, possibly with injuries. While police were en route, dispatch advised a witness was following the offending vehicle northbound and that it exited at 7-Mile Road.

The driver of the car was seen speeding through the front yard of a residence before exiting in the parking lot of the BP gas station, going east to Highway V and then south to Highway G and back west to I-94. Mount Pleasant police and Racine County Sheriff’s deputies caught up to the driver as he was headed south on I-94. He was apprehended during a high-risk traffic stop on the Highway 20 off-ramp.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the original accident, and alcohol is not believed to a factor.

The driver of the offending vehicle is in the Racine County Jail facing charges of reckless driving and hit-and-run of an attended vehicle.
