Mount Pleasant police are investigating how and why a 45-year-old woman may have been hit by a train Saturday after her body was discovered adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

Officers were called to the 1900 block of Willow Road after a train conductor reported a female’s body lying adjacent to the tracks near SC Johnson’s Waxdale plant. When police and rescue from South Shore Fire Department arrived, they quickly determined the woman was deceased and suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

The woman is from Mount Pleasant, and her identity is not being released until police can notify her family.

Investigators do not suspect foul play, but the woman’s death remains under investigation.
