A South Milwaukee man was hit with his fifth drunken driving offense after abandoning his damaged car near the intersection of Highway K and Interstate 94 on Monday night.
According to court records, Kyle R. Ostrowiecki, 37, was driving north on I-94 without headlights, posing a roadway hazard. The vehicle had damage, and was suspected of being in a crash.
A deputy came across the vehicle about 9 p.m., and saw the suspected driver walking on the shoulder up ahead. The deputy saw the man – later identified as Ostrowiecki – turn to look back and then start running.
The deputy pulled his squad up, and went to talk with Ostrowiecki. He reportedly told the deputy that someone else was driving and hit the wall because the roads were slippery. There ws only one set of footprints in the fresh snow, however, and he then admitted he had been driving.
According to the criminal complaint, he also admitted having a cocktail and Xanax prior to driving.
The man was taken to the hospital for a forced blood draw.
He is being held on a $2,500 cash bond, with a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 20.
