Sturtevant SportsPlexThe Racine Unified School District has reached a tentative agreement to buy the Sturtevant SportsPlex for about $5.2 million, but the deal still needs to be approved by the School Board.

The Renaissance School, which had been looking at buying the Sportsplex, recently bought the building it currently occupies, according to Racine County property transfer records.

The building has two indoor soccer fields and three basketball courts that take up about 2.3 of the 107,681 square feet and the remaining space is available for education.

The district has not made any definitive plans on how they will use the building, which is located at 10116 Stellar Ave. A feasibility study is expected to be done over the next few months, according to a press release by the Racine Unified School District.

A feasibility study committee, made up of Racine Unified staff and community members, will be putting together the study.

“Utilization plans for the facility will be detailed in the feasibility study,” said Dave Hazen, chief operations officer for Racine Unified. “The soccer, volleyball and basketball portion of the facility will be a great addition to District athletic facilities. The location of the Sturtevant Sportsplex will also provide a means to increase our educational options in this growing area of the community.”

The school district expects to work with the Village of Sturtevant on the project.

“We look forward to discussions with Village Board members and others in the Sturtevant community to ensure that we’re working together to provide more educational choices for our students,” Hazen said.
