A man has been accused of taking about $10,000 in equipment from his former employer and trying to sell it over the internet, according to a criminal complaint by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
Randy Gartner, 31, of Racine, was charged by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department with theft-movable property greater than $2,500 and less than $5,000.
If convicted, Gartner faces  up to three years six months in prison and/or fined up to $10,000.
According to the criminal complaint, a number of power tools, tools and tool boxes were discovered missing between June 29 and July 1 from Putzmeister, a Mount Pleasant-based company that makes concrete and material placing equipment. The tools had an estimated value of about $10,000.
Investigators learned that Gartner, who worked at Putzmeister, had placed an advertisement on Craigslist to sell the stolen tools. Posing as an interested buyer, investigators arranged to meet Gartner in the parking lot at WalMart. After completing the transaction, Mount Pleasant Police arrested Gartner, who told them that he knew what he was doing was wrong. However, he didn’t admit to knowing the tools were stolen.
Gartner is being held at the Racine County Jail on a probation hold.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 20 in front of Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch.
