To help combat drug and alcohol use and prevent violence in school, the Racine Unified School District has been awarded a $25,000 state grant.
The money is part of a $1 million package of grants awarded by the state Department of Public Instruction to 100 public schools across the state, a story in The Journal Times reads.
RUSD was the only district in Racine County to receive a grant. William Horlick High School will receive $800 for a student-led prevention initiative, the story continues.
“Students can be their own best teachers,” state Superintendent Tony Evers is quoted as saying said in a statement. “When our young people create solutions to the problems of alcohol and drug use or other risky behaviors, they become part of a school environment that supports healthy and resilient students.”
