This Valentine’s weekend in Racine County has lots of entertainment options including live music, art and even an exotic dinner with exotic animals. Come along with Real Racine.
A jazzy evening. What better way to spend an evening then with Davina and the Vagabonds? This Twin Cities-based band specializes in New Orleans jazz and blues emphasizing horns, piano and drums. You can catch them as part of Jean’s Jazz Series on the Racine Theatre Guild stage, 2519 Northwestern Ave. Show time is 7 p.m. Saturday. Love in the air. The Racine Love Show is a new event that combines music, artists and wellness. Described as “semi-formal,” it showcases local musicians, including Brent Mitchell, Byrell Lampkins & Curtis Crump, Mexico City is Sinking, ALPS and many more. There are also dance and poetry performances, local artwork and exhibits from wellness organizations and healers. It runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Preservation Hall, 740 Lake Ave. Admission is $5 and the Racine Love Show benefits the Racine Literacy Council.
Dine with the animals. You can show your special someone something a little different at the Racine Zoo’s Animal Amore from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday. It includes champagne, open bar, and appetizers followed by a catered dinner. During dessert, there is a special presentation on wild animal love. Seating is limited – tickets are $65 per person. A musical competition. You’re invited to see some of the area’s most accomplished high school musicians at the Racine Symphony Orchestra Young Artists’ Competition. The top three finishers will receive scholarship money. The first place finisher will perform with the RSO at its April 23 Masterworks concert. Another shot at ice fishing. The weather is expected to cooperate for two ice fishing contests in Racine County on Saturday. Racine’s ReefPoint Marina, 2 Christopher Columbus Causeway, is the site for Salmon Unlimited’s 2016 Racine Trout Ice Derby from 6:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Registration is $20 per person for a chance to win cash and merchandise prizes. At Fischer Park on Browns Lake, Durand Avenue east of Burlington, the Jaycees present the Off the Hook ice fishing derby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are prizes for the largest northern pike, bass and walleye plus raffles all day for cash and fishing equipment prizes.
