Racine police say a man with multiple theft convictions got away with a pricey piece of equipment from Johnson Outdoors and is now facing more jail time.
John Johnson, 48, of Toledo, OH, was charged Friday in Racine County Circuit Court with two felony counts of bail jumping and one misdemeanor count each of retail theft and bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 13-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $40,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, a man was seen Jan. 11 by employees of Johnson Outdoors, 555 Main Street, leave the store without paying for a Minn-Kota iPilot Link for a power drive V2 motor valued at $799.99. During the course of their investigation, officers identified the man as Johnson.
Police say that colleagues with the Pleasant Prairie Police Department also positively identified the man as Johnson because of the amount of time the defendant has spent in the Kenosha County Jail. Johnson was also out on bail related to two separate cases out of Milwaukee and Racine counties, respectively.
Johnson was assigned a $750 cash bond and will next be in court Feb. 17 for his preliminary hearing.
