When Sturtevant’s tax incremental financing district closes later this year, the village will receive a one-time, lump-sum payment of approximately $1.3 million, and trustees have to decide how best to use the money.

At the continual committee meeting Tuesday, board members, staffers and residents started putting together a wish list of how the funds could be used with a “sky’s the limit” kind of premise.

Property owners will benefit big time from the district closing; taxes are forecast to decrease by as much as 25 percent in 2017.

How should Sturtevant spend $1.3 million?

Hire more police officers & increase their salaries
Expand, improve, maintain parks
Re-start village recreation program
Improve Village Hall so it better reflects the future of the village
Development program to help attract small and medium sized businesses
Create community development fund of small, low interest loans to help with smaller projects, including home improvements
Designate a historical district with period street signs
Bring Village Hall into the 21st century with electronic sign on 90th Street; tablets for trustees; big screens for better resident participation
